Article: This article lists the ways to get rid of a phobia. Flooding is a high degree of exposure to the phobic object. Desensitization involves muscle relaxation while gradually increasing the exposure to the phobic object. Medication is to help reduce fear or panic. Reconsolidation is trying to switch traumatic memories with new memories to help prevent the return of phobia.

Modeling can help eliminate phobias by learning through watching and acting as the model does. If someone has a fear of dogs and watches a model approach , touch, pet , and then hug the dog, then the phobic person may feel more at ease to follow the models actions. Flooding and Desensitization are both therapies based on classical conditioning.

Girl Interrupted
Movie: In this movie, a young woman tells her story about her stay in a mental hospital after she is diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. She makes friends with other patients suffering from different types of schizophrenia, severe depression and obsessive compulsive disorders.
Connection: This movie relates to Personality Disorders, and Schizophrenia in chapter 14. With personality disorders, the disorder is the personality itself. The person can have a strange pattern of behavior and ways of relating to others. With schizophrenia, many have the inability to seperate fantasy from reality. They tend to have delusions even after evidence has disproved the false beliefs.

For the Love of Nancy
Movie: This movie is about a young woman who suffers with anorexia. She at first denies that she has a problem, then due to malnutrition, she has to be hospitalized. Being of age, she signs herself out. The battle with her appearance and weight loss fluctuates through out the movie.
Connection: The movie relates to Anorexia Nervosa in chapter 9. It is a condition when a persons weight loss is 15 percent below the expected body weight. They may have distorted images of themselves, menstruation ceases due to lack of nourishment, and they may even hide food or throw up food eaten around others. Force-feeding might be called for in extreme cases.

Movie: The Notebook is about a couple of young lovers that grow old together. The woman gets Alzheimer's and the man trys to bring back her memories of their long history by reading from his notebook.

Memory lose is mild at first but becomes more severe as time passes. Caring for a loved one that has the disease can drain a person emotionally, knowing that one day they may not remember you at all. There are no cures but the disease can be treated with medication.

Article: Research shows that getting enough sleep will help your brain process the day by strengthening your memories and the connections between neurons, resulting in better memory. Participants were asked to remember a list of numbers shown to them 10 hours earlier, after having a full nights sleep or none at all. Those who received no sleep made the most mistakes.

Therefore,they lose more information due to the fact that sleep is important for memory and thinking well. Lose of sleep disturbs the normal sleep-wake cycle and isn't good for the bodies health. Studies have been conducted to show that even being deprived of 2 hours of sleep can effect the abilities to function, as if they had no sleep at all.
